We may not be planning grand events for this year’s Christmas celebrations; we can, nevertheless, create the luxurious, warm and cosy atmosphere that the days command, with some of our favourite people!

And what’s best than preparing and presenting an elegant menu, with each of its dishes harmoniously accompanied by a different wine, highlighting both the flavours and the formality of the festive season!

This year ‘Oenou Yi – Ktima Vassiliades’ winery gives you the most special tips on preparing a Christmas feast full of unique flavours and aromas.

The setting

To start with, a Christmas dining table needs a proper decoration. Create a magical setting by extending the tree decorations to all corners of the house, and, of course, the table! All the effort you’ll put in the kitchen needs to be showed off at a neat table where details matter!

The dishes

Christmas smell of cinnamon, clove and orange. Together with the Christmas dishes of slow-cooked roasted turkey and chestnut stuffing, they can warm up your home’s atmosphere.

Before serving the main course, open a bottle of Rodambelo. It will be perfect with the seasonal salads that ought to accompany your dishes, as well as the traditional Cypriot appetisers, such as grilled halloumi and mushrooms.

Then choose between slow-cooked turkey or chicken alongside a Premium Chardonnay which equally fits on the occasion you’ll be serving rich dishes with creamy texture. If your dishes are full of spices and aromas, prefer a Premium Xinisteri with its round, thick, creamy and at the same time crunchy mouth and the persistent aftertaste that dominates the palate.

For ‘redder’ dishes and traditional charcuterie appetisers, steaks and pork, the dynamic and bold Geroklima is the choice to swear by. A special wine produced from the special, indigenous variety, Maratheftiko that can impress even the most demanding palates.

Don’t forget the dessert

As everybody knows, Christmas without dessert has no meaning! Whether you choose traditional melomakarona or chocolate desserts, the royal Commandaria from ‘Oenou Yi – Ktima Vassiliades’ should not be missing from the table. With its sweetness and unique aging aromas of dried fruit, honey and spices, it justifies its legendary history and name as the oldest PDO wine in the world.

If you’d rather have white and pastry cream desserts, fruit tart or white chocolate then the semi-sweet Thalero wine should be your choice of wine.

And since it’s Christmas… gift!

Hospitality is a Greek custom and we Greeks honour Christmas in depth. So don’t let your guests leave your house empty-handed!
