Oenou Yi – Ktima Vassiliades celebrates the bicentennial of the Greek Revolution by bottling a white and a red wine in commemoration of the 1821 fighters.

The commemorative Oenou Yi – Ktima Vassiliades ‘Greek Revolution Dry White Wine’ is a unique blend based on the Xinisteri, Malaga and Assyrtiko varieties. These traditional Greek and Cypriot varieties are characterised by the eagerness of their roots to reach the water; just as the Struggle of 1821 in pursue of Freedom.

Along with the white wine, we have also bottled the ‘Greek Revolution Dry Red Wine’ from three robust and sturdy international varieties; Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, fully adapted to the terroir of Omodos. It is unique, just as the Greeks who led the most beautiful revolution of the 19th century, the flagship of struggles, the Greek Revolution of 1821, which led to our national integration.

Cyprus had its part to play in the perpetual struggle of 1821 as the centuries-old Greek tradition of the island led to the sacrifice of many lives as a pledge of freedom and as a legacy for future generations; Kyprianos and Germanos of Old Patras, Oikonomos Dositheos of Omodos and Makrygiannis, Chrysanthos and Diakos.

Embracing this legacy, we must preserve the memory by ‘bottling it’ through the most historic drink, the wine, which has always accompanied Hellenism in life, joy and struggle.

And let the voice of our national poet, Kostis Palamas, echo: This I shall tell you / get drunk on the everlasting wine of ‘21!
